A beam of light reaches across the stormy sea in this concept stock photo. This is Pigeon Point lighthouse on the coast of Northern California. The lighthouse, however, has been composited into a picture of the Pacific ocean off the coast of Hawaii. Lighthouses make great concept stock photographs. Their messages can mean anything from Risk, Danger and Adversity to Hope, guidance and the way forward. They can have a spiritual message of salvation, or a message of safe navigation through the waters of stormy financial times. Their message of hope and direction can be applied to any industry or business. Perhaps even more important,a lighthouse represents a message that crosses cultures and languages; their message is universal. Not only that, but lighthouses are iconic. Their symbolic meanings have become ingrained in us from an early age. That gives the lighthouse messages an unusually strong impact.

Creating Lighthouse pictures for stock photo uses

To increase the power and impact of the message of the lighthouse picture, I used Photoshop to copy and paste it from its location on a calm but overcast day, into a raging storm off of the coast of Hawaii. Actually, it wasn't really a raging storm, rather the waves during a brief squall that I also composited together to create the impression of a storm at sea. A lighthouse in a storm offers a far more powerful and compelling message than that of a lighthouse on a pleasant day with calm seas. The image was created in such a way that it works for vertical crops (magazine covers), horizontal crops (billboards), and even as a thumbnail on the internet.

Uses for Lighthouses in storms in advertising, editorial and promotional uses

Some industries that can make particularly good use of lighthouses in their advertising and communications include banking and financial institutions, insurance agencies, Religious organizations, charities, almost any consulting organization and numerous other categories. Any company or business that portends to help guide others into a successful future, or through troubled times or situations, can utilize lighthouses to help deliver their message. Lighthouse images are great for not just advertising and communications, but also are great for book covers, calendars, greeting cards and all manner of paper products from stickers to checks to journals.
