This one the first of a series of pictures of funny elephants I created for my collection of concept stock photos. While on a trip to Thailand I photographed an elephant in a variety of positions for later use in creating Photoshop composites. This elephant stock picture combines the elephant in a sitting position with a photograph I took of a bench on the Sausalito waterfront. To add just a bit more interest to the image, I inserted a flight of pelicans gliding overhead in the distance. I used a crop that will work both as a horizontal for, say, magazine spreads, and vertical for magazine covers. There is plenty of open space that allows the shot to breathe as well as providing ample room to add either headlines or body copy.
What originally drew me to creating elephant images was my desire to simply be near and interact with an elephant. One great side benefit to have stock photography as a career is the opportunity to use photography to experience new situations and meet interesting people. Among the interesting animals I have been able to photograph through stock photography are Lions, Tigers, Reindeer, and Baboons.
The latest additions to the humorous elephant collection include the elephant as "thinker", the elephant in a room, the elephant in a recovery room (medical image), and the elephant sitting in a bar, both with and without a woman "date". Stay tuned for more such images!
