Multi-Racial, Mutli-Cultural, Multi-Gender Teamwork Expressed In A Circle Of Joined Hands

A circle of joined hands by models of different genders, races and cultures makes a perfect stock photo illustrating concepts such as unity, teamwork, and understanding. This image is powerful in its simplicity. It is a quick read as a small thumbnail, but holds up well when used large. The photograph can be cropped for both horizontal and vertical use. The image represents both lifestyle and business. The simple background of black to white gradation adds simplicity yet retains a sophisticated look.

The Symbology of Hands

Hands make great stock photo subject matter. They are symbolic of action, are uniquely human, and have a variety of rich meanings depending on their pose. In this case the circular pose indicates both unity and teamwork. The firm grips indicate strength and power. The variety of clothing (sleeves) can indicate both business and lifestyle usage. Hands are universal in nature and by avoiding identifying objects such as jewelry this image is appropriate for use throughout the world.

Creating Stock Imagery

To create this image I hired the appropriate models and had them stand together and form the circle. It wasn't as easy as it looks! I had to have each grasp look natural and unforced which required quite a bit of effort from the models. I had to get as much "arm" in the picture from each model as I could so the models also had to position their bodies in an awkward manner, while still holding firmly but also in a relaxed way, to the wrist of the adjoining model. I stood on a ladder and shot down on them, directing my assistant to fine-tune the pose right down to each finger. To complete the photo I used Photoshop to add the background and lengthen a couple of the arms.
