The dramatic nature of the image draws a viewer in and causes them to want to find out what is going on, in effect, to read the copy. That is exactly what a stock picture needs to do, and this one does it extremely well. In addition, there is plenty of room for cropping it in a variety of ways. It can be cropped vertically to allow for magazine covers, or horizontally for billboards. The image is a quick read even at thumbnail size on the Internet, and however it is used, there is plenty of room for headlines and type.

Producing Stock Photography Wtih Energy and Conservation Related Themes

To produce this energy saving photo we attached a porcelain light bulb base to a c-stand that was just out of the top of the frame. We lit the image with hot lights, then while my assistant shot the light bulb with a pellet gun I fired off a series of shots. This was the third shot in the series and captured what we were looking for perfectly. The shutter speed of one five-hundredth of a second allows for just enough movement of dust and glass debris to give the image a sense of action.
