Scarcity, Portion Control and Mental Outlook in a funny concept Stock Photo

This concept stock photo can illustrate many ideas from scarcity and portion control to pessimism, mental outlook and even dietary, nutritional and eating disorder issues. One of the marks of a great stock image is flexibility...the ability to mean different things when accompanied with different headlines and body copy. One can easily picture this image of a dinner plate with a very tine pork chop and baked potato with the headline "Not Getting Your Money's Worth?", and meaning something completely different when coupled with a headline of "Does Your Diet Leave You Unsatisfied?". In either case the humor comes through and grabs a viewer's attention. Attention grabbing and versatile...the marks of a great stock photo!

Dietary, Nutrition and Healthy Eating Pictures

With all of the attention paid these days to diets, healthy nutrition, and eating disorders there is certainly a need for more photos that depict these timely and important topics. This photo of a pathetically small portion of a "steak and potatoes" type dinner helps fulfill that "hole" in the stock photography market. This image, or a variation of it, was originally shot on assignment for VIA magazine. It lay dormant in my stock files until vary recently. I stumbled across it while looking for parts for another stock project I am working on. In the original photograph the steak (actually a pork chop) and baked potato were normal sized. I had the whole shoot archived including some shots in which the plate is empty. I simple created three versions...the plate with a very small portion on it, a normal sized portion, and one with only the meat on it. I then sent those three versions on Blend Images. Normally I would balk at providing three very similar images...but in this case each variation has a completely different set of potential uses...and so off they went. Of course, the true valuation of these stock pictures will only be known a couple of years after they have been in the market. I suspect they will do quite well! This image can be applied to many business scenarios, social contexts, and even governmental issues. Health issues, tax issues, even future scenarios can all be indicated with this food image.

Steak and Potatoes Stock Photo

The term "steak and potatoes" has been ingrained in us to mean straight forward, plain and simple, hearty and good, "American" and numerous other positive inferences. In some cases the positive attributes can also change to mean limited, limiting, and uninspired. Whatever the case, it is a classic phrase that when combined with a great image can be easily used by a variety of businesses to promote and advertise their products and services...even if the steak is a pork chop!
