Tiger In The Jungle

Tiger In The Jungle

What could be more fearsome that encountering a Tiger in the jungle in close proximity? In this tiger photo the great feline has paused and is looking directly into the camera with menacing and penetrating eyes. A member of the Felidae family, the Panthera tigris, or Tiger, the largest of the big cats. Tigers can weight up to 660 pounds. The can live up to twenty years in captivity, but only live ten to fifteen years in the wild. Unlike many cats, Tigers enjoy the water and are strong swimmers. Tigers have night vision six times better than that of humans. Different subspecies of tigers include the Bengal Tiger, the Indochinese Tiger, The Siberian Tiger, and the Malayan tiger. Tigers have killed more people than any other big cat. In San Francisco the tiger Tatiana escaped from her enclosure in the San Francisco zoo and killed a man who had apparently been tormenting her. There are estimates that as many as 12,000 tigers are being kept as pets. Animal Planet conducted a poll in which the Tiger was found to be the world's favorite animal beating out even the dog!

Photographing A Tiger In The Jungle For Stock Photography

This image is meant to be a stock photo for illustrating concepts such as danger, risk, and challenge. It is not meant to be a "nature" photograph. I didn't build a blind and wait weeks for a tiger to go by. Instead I photographed the tiger in the zoo. The jungle setting was photographed in Hawaii. I then used Photoshop to "transport" the big cat into the jungle setting. Purists will probably condemn me, but heck, I'm used to it!

Can A Tiger Change Its Stripes?

Can a tiger change its stripes? I am not sure why it would want to. As seen in this photo of a tiger lurking in the jungle, a tiger's stripes provide excellent camouflage, particularly in a stand of trees such as seen here. The stripes also provide excellent cover in tall grass.
