Adventure On Socotra, Yemen

Part of our adventure on the island of Socotra, off the coast of Yemen, involved circumnavigating the island in our land cruisers. At this point we had driven up the sand dunes as far as we could, then bailed out and began hiking over the dunes. Just beyond the dunes are the warm waters of the Red sea.

Looking for an exotic vacation? Socotra may be the place for you. The terrain is breathtaking and ranges from mountains and deep gorges, to white sand beaches to sand dunes. The people are friendly, though the accommodations can be a bit basic. Our accommodations ranged from hotels to thatched huts to tents. Food was basic but good: Fresh fish, Nan, and a few meager vegetables.

If your looking to get away from it all and get your mind into a new and fresh space, Socotra might be the destination for you. With no Internet to speak of, no easy access to television, and a lot of the time no power, well, getting away from it all becomes almost unavoidable!
