A Giraffe In Danger

This image of a giraffe in danger, about to step off of a steep cliff that it does not see, is a metaphor for lack of awareness, failure to see the big picture, and how sometimes advantages can actually turn in to disadvantages. In this case we think of Giraffes as having an advantage in terms of vision because of their higher elevation, and yet in this photo the Giraffe is blinded to the dangers of the cliff because his feet (and the cliff) are obscured by a cloud cover that his head is above.

Giraffes As Business Metaphor

This giraffe serves as a great business metaphor stressing the risks of assumptions and obscured vision. Actually, a great title for this image might be "Assumptions". The position of the giraffe's leading hoof leaves some doubt as to whether the worst will actually happen or not. If he is treading catiously he may be able to recover when his front hoof drops down lower than he expects, but then his momentum might carry him oer anyway. The giraffe in this image is emblematic of big business that fails to stay on top of the details. The clouds in this image represent the overload of information that can lead to missed details, or cloud the big picture in the world of business.

Giraffes And Vision

Giraffes often serve as iconic symbols of the concept "vision", but  in this twist that vision has been impaired by a low-lying cloud cover or fog bank. The moral of this image is readily apparent, assumptions are dangerous, particularly in business. The giraffe does indeed have the advantage of height when it comes to vision, but his judgement is compromised taking the vision from an advantage to a liability. This wonderfully graphic image is a quick read even on the Internet at thumbnail sizes, crops square, vertical or horizontal, and has ample copy space. There is an emotional impact at the thought of the graceful creature tumbling over the cliff, but also an element of humor at the absurdity of the situation. In this case the way forward is fraught with danger!
