Wall Art for BathroomsWall art, such as photography, is a great way to elevate your bathrooms to a higher level. Keep in mind that it is important to use art protected from, or resistant to, the damage of high moisture levels and/or the occasional water splash. This can range from pictures that are matted and framed with a sealed backing, to images printed on tiles to other products, such as clocks. Many such products are available through Cafepress (link to café press). Modern bathrooms can be more than just a place for a brief pit stop. Often they become de facto in-home spas. They have become rooms that we linger in to pamper ourselves. Too, they are rooms that our guests visit as well. It only makes sense that we provide wall décor that reflects our own tastes and preferences and raises, if only briefly, our emotions to a higher level.
Art On Bath Room Walls: Serious And HumorFor some people the art on their bathroom walls will be of a more serious nature, and for others humor is more appropriate. Whether you take a light-hearted approach, or a more serious one, there is a wide range of subject matter and themes that can work to enhance the bathroom experience, and photography offers both a practical and beautiful way to access those themes.
Ocean Theme Bathroom DécorOcean themes are great for bathrooms. The element of water fits in perfectly in a room dedicated to showers, bathing, and a, shall we say, contemplative time. Oceans, coastlines and seascapes can range from the serene and calm, to the powerful and almost violent in nature. They can stimulate appreciation for natural beauty, introspection, philosophy and adventure. From ships and sail boats in ocean storms to majestic sunsets over the sea, ocean themes can add drama, beauty and emotion to any bathroom.
LighthousesLighthouses, a subset of ocean themes, deserve a category all their own. Lighthouses are universally appreciated, cross-cultural, and rich in symbolic meaning. They can be appreciated for their beauty alone as well as for the meanings they portray ranging from man’s struggle with nature, to guidance, salvation and safety. When it comes to bathroom wall art, few items make a better fit than gorgeous and dramatic lighthouse photography. Lighthouse pictures can range from lighthouses in beautiful sunsets, to lighthouses standing strong in ferocious storms, to lighthouses in moonscapes.
Bathroom Decoration With HumorWhen making bathroom decoration decisions, don’t be afraid to introduce some humor, and one kind of humor that is always popular is animal humor. Funny pet pictures are a great way to brighten up the day of anyone entering your bathroom. Photos of cats and dogs in funny situations can be used both as wall prints and imprinted on tiles, which are as impervious to moisture as you could want, and could even be worked into bathroom tile installations and accessories such as clocks. A cat taking a bath in a sink, or birdbath, will bring a smile to anyone, cat lover or not! Images of cats in spa settings, or getting a manicure, or even a massage are also sure to please.
Elephants, Cows, Lions and Bathroom HumorAs odd as it may sound, even pictures of elephants can add to your bathroom experience. These pictures can range from an elephant pondering the sea, to elephant love on the water’s edge, or the contemplative image of an elephant adopting Rodin’s “Thinker” pose! Cows, particularly Holstein cows, are popular photos as well. And as far as bathroom humor goes…isn’t a lion, the king of beasts, best portrayed sitting on a “throne”?
Travel Bathroom Wall ArtOne great way to introduce an exotic and yet still appropriate theme into your bathroom is by the use of travel photography. Perhaps the image might be one of Burmese nuns bathing in the Irawaddy River, or even an awesome scene of villagers in India hand washing their laundry (Laundry bathroom art). A scene of fishermen plying their trade on the smooth and placid waters of Inle Lake, in Myanmar, adds both a feeling of serenity and introduces an exotic atmosphere to any bathroom. If you have to fill an unusually wide space on your wall, a panorama photograph of ancient Cambodian temple ruins of Angkor Wat might be just the answer. Even an oasis in the Gobi desert can make for an enhancing and exotic addition to the look and feel of your bathroom.
Triptychs and Wall DecorTriptychs are a great way to incorporate art into bathroom wall décor. There is something inherently aesthetically pleasing about an arrangement of three artistic elements. In addition, three related photographs can tell a story more completely than a single picture. Triptychs, depending on their arrangement, can offer increased flexibility in filling an awkward or unusual section of wall.
