Pictures of Cloud Computing

As cloud computing gets started in earnest and becomes a central part of business infrastructure, pictures of cloud computing are going to become increasingly important as visual aids to help advertise the services and products associated with Internet based computing. Cloud computing refers to the utilization of software programs that reside on remote servers rather than the individual PC. The program itself is "streamed" along with the data being crunched and frees up the end user from constantly having to update software programs. Cloud computing can also lower the capital investment needed for business start ups and established corporations. Having off-site software also decreases the risks associated with computer crashes and natural disasters that can destroy programs and data.

Cloud Computing Illustrated

Illustrating cloud computing can be a challenge for commercial artists and photographers. Stock photography needs a constant supply of fresh material, particularly for new technologies such as cloud computing. In the case of picturing the streaming of data over the Internet, the transmission of the ones and zeros that are fundamental to modern communications and cloud computing in particular, I resorted to photographing a one and a zero that I purchased from a local hardware store. Then I used Photoshop to composite the numerals, binary numbers, into a cloudscape I photographed at the top of Mount Haleakala on Maui, Hawaii. Using a sunrise cloudscape helps indicate that cloud computing is still in its infancy and just beginning its growth into mainstream use.

Cloud Computing Images, Photos and Visuals

Cloud computing images, photos and visuals are few and far between at this juncture. With that in mind I created a series of pictures showing the concept of cloud computing by utilizing binary numbers, the basic building blocks of computing data, along with cloud formations and cloudscapes. In one instance I actually created the binary numbers from clouds...and believe me, that is a lot of work! At this point I have a number of stock photos that can be used to effectively illustrate streaming data as well as cloud computing. At bandwidth increases, compression algorithms become more effective and sophisticated, and Internet use more prevalent, the use of cloud computing and streaming data are both going to skyrocket and will therefore require more appropriate imagery for everything from advertising pictures to editorial illustration to promotional visuals. Streaming data, of course, includes everything from photographs to videos to audio tracks and the written word.
